Velda Brotherton
Author Bio:
Velda Brotherton began to write for the second time in 1983 because the voices in her head made so much racket she had to pay attention to them. Beginning with newspaper articles, she moved to feature writing, then on to a historical column. This soon led to her first book publication, a regional historical nonfiction in 1994.
Fiction writing continued to call and her first western historical romance came out in late 1994, followed by five more over a six year period. With the turmoil in New York, she went back to her first love, regional historical nonfiction and has published a total of six books in that field.
Recently Velda turned back to fiction, first republishing her first four westerns to Kindle. After a short break to promote those books, she plans to get the final two on Kindle. Three novels lie on her desk awaiting final edits and rewrites. She also has a paranormal mainstream, Wolf Song, coming out in November from SynergEbooks and a western historical romance, Stone Heart’s Woman, due out in February of 2012 from The Wild Rose Press.
She lives with her husband and works in a home she designed and helped build in the Ozark National Forest. As co-chair of a large and very successful critique group, she helps mentor young authors and conducts workshops. She is a member of Women Writing the West, Authors Guild, Ozarks Writer’s League and Northwest Arkansas Writers Workshop.
“I’m a pure country girl,” she says. “I’d rather walk barefoot in dew-touched grass than shop at the fanciest of malls; wade in a creek, or sit on the deck and listen to frogs sing down in the valley.”
